AMC Networks owns and operates several popular and award-winning brands in cable television, including AMC, BBC AMERICA, IFC, SundanceTV, WE tv, IFC Films, and a number of fast-growing streaming services, including the AMC+ premium streaming bundle, Acorn TV, Shudder, Sundance Now, and ALLBLK.

The Company also operates AMC Networks International, its international programming business, and 25/7 Media, its production services business.

AMC is best known for producing the drama series Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Hell on Wheels and Walking Dead.

The company launched AMC+ streaming service in June 2020 with live programming and shows from AMC, IFC, and SundanceTV, plus IFC Films Unlimited, Shudder, and Sundance Now, starting at $8.99 per month.

AMC also operates four targeted streaming services: Acorn TV, the largest streaming service, specializing in world-class mysteries and drama from Britain and beyond; Shudder, serving fans of horror and suspense; Sundance Now, featuring mysteries, prestige drama and true crime; and ALLBLK (previously known as Urban Movie Channel), the first streaming destination dedicated to Black audiences, featuring the best in Black TV and film.

In 2020, AMC reported revenues of $2.8 billion, a decline of 8.0%, and net income of $240 million.

Josh Sapan stepped down as CEO of the company in August 2021 and Matthew Blank is now Interim CEO as the company looks for a permanent replacement. Sapan had been CEO of the company since 1995.

James Dolan is Chairman of AMC and also owner of Madison Square Garden and the NY Knicks and NY Rangers.

The Company employed 2,002 full-time employees and 355 part-time employees as of December 31, 2020. Its global workforce is over 50% women, with 44% of senior leadership positions held by women. Over 27% of our U.S.-based workforce are people of color.

History

The AMC channel, which stood for American Movie Classics, was first launched on October 1, 1984. The channel originally aired classic movies in unedited form at. Today, AMC offers movies and original programs and is available in 97 million homes.

IFC was launched in 1994 as a spinoff of Bravo Network, then owned by Cablevision. It was known as the Independent Film Channel. Today, IFC can be seen in more than 62 million households.

Sundance Channel was launched in February 1996 to showcase independent films. It was acquired by Rainbow Media, a subsidiary of Cablevision, in 2007 for $496 million.

AMC Networks was spun off as a separate company on July 1, 2011 from its parent company Cablevision Systems with its own stock listing.
